Absentee Father

So I missed my first doctor’s appointment yesterday. As expected, I didn’t miss much. Tiffany provided a urine sample and got her blood pressure taken. They also checked for the baby’s heartbeat which we had just seen on Saturday. The little one’s ticker was beating 158 beats a minute and everything was completely normal.
Tiffany made our next appointment for the second week in August. First we have an ultrasound at the hospital at 7 am and then we visit with the doctor at 8:45, an early morning, but we should find out the sex of the baby so very much worth it.
We were at a dinner party a couple weeks back and someone told us God didn’t intend for parents to find out the sex of their baby before it was born. I immediately pointed out that if that was the case, he wouldn’t have given us the ability to do so. That got a chuckle and some mumbo jumbo about how planning for something is controlling and that’s not what God wants or some such inane reason.
Meanwhile neither this woman or the other one that was agreeing with her had any problem taking an epidural.  I don’t recall anything in the bible about using drugs to relieve pain, but hey, I could be mistaken.
The woman apologized later and of course we said she didn’t need to. She was just sharing her beliefs, no matter how ridiculous they might be:). She is actually very nice, but I didn’t and still don’t follow her logic. Needless to say, we’’ll still be finding out the sex of our child.
Tiffany is now at 14 weeks. They say the second trimester is the easiest, I guess the calm before the storm. Other than needing to buy some maternity clothes, the next couple months should be relatively easy.
